10 Steps You Should Follow to Start a WordPress Blog


WordPress is the simplest, most powerful way to create your own website or blog. WordPress is an open-source management system that means anyone can use or modify the WordPress software for free. 

You can create any website with WordPress, i.e., Business website, e-commerce stores, Blogs, Portfolios, Resumes, Social Networks, Membership sites, etc.

Step-1 Choose a Hosting Plan

To create a WordPress blog, you can use WordPress.com or WordPress.org. About 95% of the users are using WordPress.org, which is also known as self-hosted WordPress. 

Because WordPress is an open-source CMS, you can install plugins, customize your blog designs without any restrictions. For that, you have to choose a web host.

Step-2 Pick and Register a Domain Name

Your domain name is essential. It’s your identity to visit your site. Keep it as simple as possible to choose a domain name. You may pick a name that reflects your blog.

When you sign up for a premium hosting plan, you can use a domain you already have or register your domain with the same company.

Step-3 Install WordPress

Step-4 Access Your WordPress Admin Dashboard

If you are using SiteGround, it will generate a series of prompts that you can follow to tour the dashboard and learn about the setup process. 

You can also go directly to the WordPress Admin Dashboard by clicking the Exit button. 

In the left panel of the menu bar, you will find the central section, and you’ll need to set up, modify, and update your WordPress blog.

Step-5 Pick a Blog Title

The blog title will be the name of your blog and featured at the top of each page. You can also change the Blog title at any time. For this, from the admin dashboard, click Settings and then select General and then edit the blog title.

Step-6 Add a Logo and Favicon

Step-7 Install and Customize Your WordPress Theme

For your blog’s design, the theme is an essential element. A theme is a collection of templets and stylesheets used to define the Appearance and display a WordPress website. You can install a theme on your WordPress website.

Your newly created website always starts with a default theme installed. You can change your theme, go to WordPress dashboard, and select Appearance> Themes > Add new. Here you will find thousands of free WordPress themes. 

You can pick any of these and install them on your website. You can also design your WordPress theme using HTML5 and CSS. For this, you can ignore all the above things and write the code in notepad++ or notepad in HTML5 tag and design through CSS.

Step-8 Add a Header and a Background Image

A header image sometimes referred to as ‘hero image.’ It generally used in Photography blogs. To upload a header image, go to Appearance> Header from there; you can upload the image pf your choice. 

To change the whole site background image, you can select Appearance> Customize to change your background image. Images quality should be High-definition. 

Step-9 Customize Your Blogs Using Plugins

WordPress plugins can help to develop both the design and functionality of your blogs. Just install your plugins similar to themes and add new features on your blog.

To search for and install plugins on your WordPress blog, you have two options. The first is to go to Plugins > Add New in your WordPress dashboard.

After all set, now you are ready to post your first blog. From the dashboard select Posts > Add new, then you can add a blog post title and insert various blocks. 

Once you finish your post, you publish it by clicking the publish button.
